



The project was formally launched at Stoneleigh Park Warwickshire on 28th February 2006.
50 guests attended representing the full spectrum of key stakeholders: participants, providers of physical exercise and learning opportunities, employers and Steering Group members.
The development team who are working with companies on Stoneleigh Park to develop an Active Learning Community organised a pancake race around the concourse in front of the Royal Pavilion. Champion skippers demonstrated their skills to arriving guests.
There were displays of the Learning Well electronic and paper-based materials and guests had the opportunity to meet the project team and network with other organisations.
As a result of the launch one large new company Domestic and General based in Bedworth, Warwickshire has joined the project.
Henley College Coventry and Solihull College have expressed an interest and contact has been made with three key organisations who support our aims and objectives and are interested in joint activity:
A project leaflet has been developed to not only promote the project but also the Learning Well programme. The full set of 4 modules Move Well, Eat Well, Be Well and Do Well have been printed along with a Learning Well diary and folder.
The website continues to be developed to promote the project as a whole and provide access to the electronic version of the Learning Well programme.
Nearly 200 participants have completed registration forms and given baseline data on their health and fitness status.
Physical fitness checks have been undertaken and some participants are booked for their follow-up checks.
Learners have been sent Move and/or Eat Well modules and have completed at least one module. The Learning Well diary will be an important component in motivating participants and tracking their progress.
All companies have an identified Active Learning representative.
To date 20 companies have completed registration forms.
Stoneleigh Park Cluster - Leap into LearningThere are facilities for physical fitness checks and indoor exercise classes, a training room for learning assessments and a base for Learning Well programme and IT training.
The Park offers wonderful opportunities for outdoor activities including the weekly walking group.
Royal Mail Distribution Centre Crick - Rugby (Learning Junction)Although there is limited space for physical activity on site there are facilities to undertake physical fitness checks and house exercise equipment.
There is also an on-site learning centre supported by Union Learning Reps for learning assessments, accessing interactive materials and a base for Learning Well programme.
A nearby company training centre offers gym facilities and extensive grounds for physical activities.
Bacharach UK LtdA medium sized company (90 employees) based on an industrial estate in Leamington Spa with strong company commitment at both employer and employee levels. There is limited on-site facilities for physical exercise and learning but there is potential for links to local gyms and learning centres.
Domestic and GeneralA large insurance company Call Centre (300 employees), based in Bedworth, Warwickshire with an on-site meeting room for physical fitness checks and exercise classes and a Church Hall next door which offers space for other physical activities.
A distribution centre (250 employees) at the Ricoh Arena site in Coventry offering gym facilities.
Parcel Force (The Ark)Based on a large distribution site near Coventry Airport, the 300 employees have a gym and a learning Centre on site. Support from Union Learning Reps is not yet established.
Rugby ClusterThree companies/organisations expressed an interest in joining the project following a Learning Well promotion at a business breakfast organised by Warwickshire College to launch a new training room at Rugby IT centre.
The centre is officially designated an Active Learning Centre and will become a base for project activity in the vicinity of Rugby Town centre.
